FREE Parking in Falmouth on Wednesdays in February - 03/01/2012
In what will be a first for Falmouth, the Falmouth BID is launching the FEBRUARY IS FREE! car parking scheme, enabling shoppers to enjoy all the town has to offer by ensuring that two of Falmouth’s largest car parks The Dell and The Quarry will be FREE to all who visit on Wednesdays during the month of February 2012.

The FEBRUARY IS FREE! car parking scheme, one of over 20 projects and schemes kick-started by the Falmouth BID since it was voted in by Falmouth businesses only two years ago, responds directly to feedback from businesses and local people who identify the cost of car parking as a key component in the shoppers’ decision making process. The Falmouth BID has responded to this by liaising with Cornwall Council to spearhead an innovative scheme that will make it even more attractive for people from across Cornwall to ‘re-discover’ Falmouth.

Simply park your car in either The Dell or the Quarry car park, any time of the night or day on Wednesday 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd or 29th February and enjoy all that Falmouth has to offer!

The Falmouth BID launches the next stage of its Public Seating project - 07/07/2011
In its quest to highlight Falmouth’s unique qualities, the Falmouth BID has appointed local design firm Mor to collaborate with Falmouth School and develop what will be the third Falmouth BID initiated and funded public seat for Falmouth.

The project responds directly to feedback from holiday visitors and local people who identify that the main thoroughfare areas of Falmouth would benefit from having more places to sit on. The Falmouth BID acted upon this by commissioning locally designed and crafted benches, that also celebrate Falmouth’s fascinating artistic history.

On Monday 27th June, a productive workshop at Falmouth School took place that began with a number of inspirational photos in order to fire up the children’s imagination. Children were then asked to come up with ideas about what makes Falmouth unique, eg its natural deep water harbour, maritime heritage, coastline and the many artists who have sought inspiration from the town.

Richard Wilcox, the Falmouth BID Manager said:

"The idea from the start of the BID public seating project was not to purchase off the shelf benches but to work with local expertise to produce ones that celebrated Falmouth’s creative spirit and artistic heritage. It was always the intention of the Falmouth BID that the third bench unveiled would be one that had a strong community input and that is exactly what will happen. We are collaborating with pupils at Falmouth School, so that local design talent can be nurtured, developed and showcased. The designs will then go on public display, with Falmouth residents and visitors having the opportunity to not only view them but the chance to vote for the bench they would like to see installed in the town."

David Buurma, from Mor Design added:

"It is always inspiring and meaningful to work with children on an art project but here we want to create a functional piece of street furniture specifically for Falmouth. What better way then than to work with a group of local children for whom the project is for. They will have a strong relationship with the seat; a sense of shared ownership. The end result will be something unique, that no other seaside town has got."

The schoolchildren’s designs will be on public display in the foyer area of the Falmouth Municipal Building on The Moor for around four weeks from mid July, with the installation of the chosen bench taking place in September.
