Forbes's 'Abbey Slip' Saved for Penzance. - 28/08/2010
Stanhope Forbes's iconic painting of Penzance, 'Abbey Slip' is now part of the permanent collection at Penlee House Gallery. The painting has been shown at Penlee many times and is a great popular favourite. Following a three month campaign to raise funds a Private Treaty sale was successfully negotiated with the owner.
Alison Bevan, Director of Penlee House, said: "We were overwhelmed by the strength of public feeling towards keeping this well-loved painting here. It's been on display during the campaign and will now remain on the gallery's wall for the foreseeable future."
