Late at Tate St Ives: Christmas at Tate - 24/11/2010
Free admission on Tuesday 21 December 2010, 16.00–21.30. Celebrate the festive season at Tate St Ives. Enjoy the art after hours with free admission to the exhibitions, a pay bar, late night gallery shopping and activities for all the family, the centrepiece being the well established St Ives Combined Chapels' Choir, performing traditional Cornish Christmas carols in the Gallery.
Some of these carols were written by tin miners and chapel organists who combined their knowledge of the scriptures with their passion for music. Included in the performances is the famous Hellesveor, written by the miner Colan ‘Cully’ Williams, who was blinded in a mining accident but who wrote 21 tunes for the Cornish carols, and conducted many choirs.'
